Sortd vs Superhuman: team workspace vs faster inbox

Superhuman makes one person faster at email by replacing Gmail with its own client. Sortd makes a team better at email by upgrading the Gmail they already use. Both are good at what they do; they are answers to different questions.

For people and teams that live in email — finance, hiring, travel, procurement, program management, sales and BD.

Sortd: trusted by 400,000+ professionals · 840,000+ downloads and 1,318 ratings on the Google Workspace Marketplace (listing updated May 2026) · voted #1 for Gmail on Product Hunt · featured in TechCrunch, Forbes and Fast Company · Google Launchpad alumni

If your problem is that you personally receive 300 emails a day, Superhuman is a serious answer and worth its price. If your problem is that several people share support@, orders@ or accounts@ and work falls through the gaps between them, speed is not the fix — ownership, status and handoff are, and that is Sortd.

Speed solves a different problem

Superhuman's premise is that email is slow, and it is right about that for a certain person: the founder or executive with three hundred messages a day and no one to share them with. Cut a second off every keystroke and you get an hour back. But a shared mailbox does not fail because people type slowly. It fails because two people answered the same customer, or nobody did; because the promised reply time passed unnoticed; because the person who knew the context was on leave and left nothing behind. Those are coordination failures, and no amount of speed fixes them. Sortd is built for that failure mode: every message has an owner, a status and a deadline, and the whole team can see all three.

You do not have to move house

Adopting Superhuman means adopting a new interface, new shortcuts and new muscle memory, for everyone you roll it out to — and if you ever stop paying, that muscle memory is worth nothing because you are back in stock Gmail. Sortd asks for none of that. It is an extension on the Gmail your team already knows; if you switch it off, Gmail is simply Gmail again. That matters most for the people who are not enthusiasts. The finance manager who just wants the invoices tracked will adopt a board inside a familiar inbox. Asking them to relearn email is where rollouts quietly die.

You keep everything Google already gives you

This is the part that has changed most since 2025. Gmail is no longer a plain inbox waiting to be improved. Gemini drafts replies in your voice, summarises long threads and answers questions about your mail; Google Meet records and summarises your meetings; Workspace search keeps getting better. Because Sortd is native to Gmail and Google Workspace, all of that keeps working and Sortd adds workflow on top. Those are Google's capabilities and we do not claim them as ours — the point is that you are not asked to trade them away. A separate client, by design, sits outside them.

What a team actually pays

For a team of ten, Sortd Business at $22 per user per month annually is $2,640 a year, and that covers unlimited inboxes, users and automations, CRM pipelines, SLA rules and advanced custom fields. Superhuman Mail Starter at $25 per user per month annually is $3,000 a year for a faster client each, and the CRM integrations sit on Business at roughly $33. Neither price is unreasonable for what it does; they simply buy different things. Confirm both on the vendors' own pricing pages before you commit, because these numbers move.

A note on the name

Worth knowing if you are searching: Grammarly acquired the Superhuman email client in July 2025, and in October 2025 the parent company renamed itself Superhuman. “Superhuman” now refers both to the mail client and to the company that also owns Grammarly and Coda, and the bundled Suite plans are priced separately from the Mail-only tiers. When comparing quotes, check which one you are being sold.

When Superhuman fits

If you are one person with an overwhelming personal inbox, you value speed above everything, and you are willing to invest a few weeks in the shortcuts, Superhuman is genuinely excellent and the people who love it are not wrong. It is the most polished email client available, and for an executive whose hour is expensive the arithmetic works. The case for Sortd starts when the inbox stops being yours alone.

Frequently asked questions

Can we use both?

Yes, and some do — an executive on Superhuman for personal mail, the team on Sortd for the shared mailboxes. They do not conflict, because Sortd works on the Gmail account rather than on the client.

Does Sortd make Gmail faster?

That is not what it is for. Sortd makes the work visible and accountable rather than the keystrokes quicker. Gmail's own shortcuts remain available, and Sortd adds drag-and-drop handoff on top.

Do all my teammates need a licence?

Only the people organising boards, taking assignments and working the shared inboxes. Everyone else keeps using Gmail normally and still receives your replies as ordinary email.

What does Sortd cost?

$10 / $16 / $22 / $29 per user per month billed annually, or $14 / $22 / $28 / $39 monthly. There is a 7-day free trial and no credit card is required to start.
